Description

Southern Peach Tea is a refreshing and sweet iced tea infusion that combines the robust flavor of black tea with juicy ripe peaches and a hint of lemon. Perfect for hot summer days, this classic southern beverage is sweetened with a homemade peach syrup and served chilled with ice and fresh mint garnish.

Ingredients

Scale

Tea

  • 4 black tea bags
  • 6 cups boiling water

Peach Syrup

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 medium ripe peaches, pitted and diced

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh mint leaves and peach slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Steep Tea: Place the 4 black tea bags in a large heatproof pitcher and pour 6 cups of boiling water over them. Allow the tea to steep for about 5-7 minutes until it reaches a strong brew, then remove the tea bags.
  2. Make Peach Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, and the diced peaches. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release their flavor, creating a syrup. Remove from heat and strain out the peach pieces if desired for a smooth syrup or leave them in for extra texture.
  3. Combine and Chill: Stir the peach syrup and 1/4 cup lemon juice into the brewed black tea. Mix well and refrigerate the tea until thoroughly chilled, about 1-2 hours.
  4. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled peach tea over the ice. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and peach slices to enhance both the presentation and flavor.

Notes

  • Use ripe peaches for the best natural sweetness and flavor in the syrup.
  • The peach syrup can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Adjust the sugar amount to your taste preference, or substitute with honey or a sugar alternative if desired.
  • For a stronger peach flavor, blend some of the cooked peach syrup with the peaches before straining.
  • This tea is best served cold and consumed within 2 days for optimal freshness.
