Description

Simple Mummy Dogs are a fun and festive appetizer or snack, especially popular during Halloween. Hot dogs are wrapped with crescent roll dough strips to resemble mummies and baked until golden brown, making them easy to prepare and visually appealing for kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 8 hot dogs (1 package)
  • 8 ounces refrigerated crescent roll dough (use the sheets if you can find them)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare it for baking the mummy dogs.
  2. Prepare the Crescent Dough: Open the refrigerated crescent roll dough and unroll it. If using crescent sheets, lay them flat on a clean surface.
  3. Cut Dough into Strips: Using a knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into thin strips approximately 1/2 inch wide to mimic mummy bandages.
  4. Wrap Hot Dogs: Take a hot dog and tightly wrap the dough strips around it, leaving small gaps to create the mummy appearance.
  5. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the wrapped hot dogs seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a non-stick surface.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and fully cooked.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the mummy dogs cool for a few minutes before serving. Optionally, add eyes with mustard or ketchup for extra decoration.

Notes

  • Use refrigerated crescent dough sheets for easier cutting and wrapping.
  • For added flavor, brush the dough strips with a little melted butter or garlic butter before baking.
  • To make eyes, use small dots of mustard, ketchup, or edible markers after baking.
  • These are best served warm but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes if needed.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute with gluten-free dough or wraps.
