Description

Delightfully easy and versatile, these Pinwheel Sandwiches are a perfect choice for snacks, lunchboxes, or party platters. Featuring soft lavash bread layered with delicate butter or mayo, savory ham, and crisp butter lettuce, these sandwiches can be customized with your favorite meats, vegetables, and cheeses to suit any palate.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 sheet lavash bread
  • ½ oz butter or mayonnaise (optional)

Fillings

  • 10 slices ham (preferably nitrate-free)
  • 10 leaves butter lettuce
  • Optional: your choice of additional meats, vegetables, and/or cheeses

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Lavash: Lay the lavash bread flat on a clean surface. Spread the butter or mayonnaise evenly over the entire surface if using, to add moisture and flavor.
  2. Add the Ham: Place the ham slices evenly over the spread lavash, covering the bread completely to ensure every bite has savory meat.
  3. Layer the Lettuce: Arrange the butter lettuce leaves on top of the ham slices, ensuring to cover the surface for a fresh, crisp texture.
  4. Roll and Chill: Carefully roll the lavash tightly from one edge to the other to form a log. Wrap the roll tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up the roll for easier slicing.
  5. Slice and Serve: Remove the rolled lavash from the refrigerator and unwrap. Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into approximately 1-inch thick pinwheels. Arrange on a platter and serve immediately or keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use nitrate-free ham or substitute with turkey, chicken, or your preferred cold cuts for variety.
  • Feel free to add cheese slices, thinly sliced cucumbers, bell peppers, or shredded carrots for added flavor and crunch.
  • Chilling the rolled sandwich before slicing helps maintain its shape and creates clean pinwheels.
  • Lavash bread can be substituted with large tortillas or flatbreads depending on availability.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit meat and add your favorite veggies and spreads such as hummus or cream cheese.
