Ingredients
Scale
Basic Cupcakes
- 12 unfrosted cupcakes
Spider Cupcake Decoration
- ½ cup prepared chocolate frosting
- 8 strips red licorice
- 12 candy-coated milk chocolate pieces (such as M&M’s®)
Worm Cupcake Decoration
- ½ cup prepared chocolate frosting
- ¼ cup chocolate cookie crumbs
- 4 gummy worm candies
Graveyard Cupcake Decoration
- 1 cup prepared chocolate frosting
- 4 rectangular or oval sandwich cookies (such as Milano®)
- ¼ cup chocolate cookie crumbs
Instructions
- Prepare Cupcakes: Start with 12 unfrosted cupcakes at room temperature, placed on a clean surface ready for decorating.
- Spider Decoration: Spread about one tablespoon of the prepared chocolate frosting on each of 6 cupcakes to cover the top fully. Cut the red licorice strips into small segments to create spider legs (8 legs per cupcake), sticking them around the edges of the frosting. Place one candy-coated milk chocolate piece in the center of each cupcake to resemble the spider’s body.
- Worm Decoration: Spread about one tablespoon of chocolate frosting on each of 4 cupcakes. Sprinkle chocolate cookie crumbs evenly over the frosting to simulate soil. Place one gummy worm candy partially sunk into the crumbs to look like it is emerging from the soil.
- Graveyard Decoration: Use the remaining 2 cupcakes, spreading approximately half a cup of chocolate frosting evenly over the top. Crush the sandwich cookies into large crumbs to mimic dirt and sprinkle the crumbs over the frosting. Place small broken pieces of sandwich cookies upright into the soil to resemble gravestones.
- Serve and Enjoy: Arrange the decorated cupcakes on a platter and serve immediately for the best presentation and freshness. These cupcakes can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
Notes
- Use chocolate frosting that is prepared and at room temperature for easy spreading.
- Red licorice strips can be replaced with any similar candy that can resemble spider legs.
- For a more dramatic graveyard effect, add edible silver or gray sugar crystals.
- These cupcakes are ideal for Halloween parties, school events, and family gatherings.
- Store leftover cupcakes in an airtight container to maintain freshness for up to 2 days.
