Description

This Cheesy Chicken Crescent Bake is a comforting and easy-to-make casserole featuring tender cooked chicken, creamy soup, and melted cheddar cheese all wrapped in buttery crescent rolls. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or casual family meal, it combines familiar flavors with a simple preparation that yields a deliciously cheesy, savory dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Mixture

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or chopped (rotisserie works great)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Dough

  • 1 tube refrigerated crescent rolls (8-count)

Optional Garnish

  • Chopped parsley for a pop of color

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the shredded cooked chicken, cream of chicken soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Mix thoroughly until well incorporated.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking once the casserole is assembled.
  3. Prepare the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into 8 individual triangles. Arrange the triangles in an 8×8 inch baking dish or similar size, pressing the edges together to form a solid dough base.
  4. Assemble the Bake: Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the dough base. Top with the remaining shredded cheddar cheese. If desired, you can gently fold in the edges of the crescent dough slightly over the filling to help contain it during baking.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crescent dough is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley to add a fresh color contrast. Cut into squares and serve warm.

Notes

  • Rotisserie chicken provides the best flavor and convenience, but any cooked chicken works well.
  • You can substitute cream of chicken soup with cream of mushroom or cream of celery for a variation.
  • Ensure the crescent roll dough edges are sealed to prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  • For added texture, consider adding chopped vegetables such as bell peppers or onions to the chicken mixture.
  • This dish reheats well and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
