Description

Butter Toffee Pretzels are a delightful sweet and salty snack featuring crunchy mini pretzel twists coated in a rich buttery toffee sauce mixed with brown sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla, then topped with English toffee bits for an extra burst of flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Pretzel Base

  • 16 ounces mini pretzel twists

Toffee Sauce

  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup (1 stick) salted butter, sliced into pats
  • 5 tablespoons light corn syrup (not dark corn syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

Topping

  • 8 ounce package Heath English toffee bits, divided

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Toffee Mixture: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the light brown sugar, salted butter, and light corn syrup. Stir frequently until the mixture reaches a smooth, bubbling consistency, indicating the sugar has dissolved and the sauce is forming.
  2. Add Vanilla and Baking Soda: Remove the saucepan from heat and quickly stir in the pure vanilla extract followed by the baking soda. The mixture will foam and lighten in color; this step creates a light, airy texture for the toffee coating.
  3. Combine Pretzels with Toffee: Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture over the mini pretzel twists in a large mixing bowl. Stir gently to coat all the pretzels evenly with the toffee sauce before it sets.
  4. Add Toffee Bits: Fold in half of the Heath English toffee bits into the coated pretzels to distribute flavor throughout the mixture.
  5. Spread Mixture to Cool: Transfer the coated pretzels onto a parchment-lined baking sheet or a large flat surface, spreading them out carefully so they cool evenly and clump minimally.
  6. Top with Remaining Toffee Bits: While the mixture is still warm, sprinkle the remaining English toffee bits on top as a final garnish to add extra crunch and sweetness.
  7. Cool and Set: Allow the butter toffee pretzels to cool completely at room temperature until the toffee hardens and the snack becomes crunchy and set, which typically takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

Notes

  • Ensure you use light corn syrup for the correct flavor and consistency; dark corn syrup can alter the taste.
  • Work quickly after adding baking soda as the mixture foams and can set rapidly.
  • Use parchment paper when spreading pretzels to prevent sticking.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
